About Us

At WP Financial, we are dedicated to serving and supporting Aboriginal employer groups across Ontario with their life, health and retirement planning needs. For 20 years, this clear focus has provided us with extensive experience and understanding of the issues that matter most to Aboriginal employers and employees. We operate independent of the insurance companies, so we are not selling a product or package. Our role is to be the interpreter of your needs with major insurance suppliers so that we can recommend the very best available products in the market. Our success is based on the relationships we develop with our clients

The people at WP Financial make complicated subject matter understandable. They are prompt in providing vital information when decisions must be made regarding our Employer Benefits Package. Anyone would benefit not only from their expertise in this field but also from their patience and loyalty to their clients.

We have a unique set of challenges being on an island that is only accessible by ferry in summer and hovercraft during the winter. The staff at WP Financial have personally made trips out to see us, making our experience with them much more personal. Director of HR

20+ years and growing.

After working for a large insurance company for several years, Geordie Watson and Ilija Parojcic decided to open their own business. As friends and coworkers they had a vision to create a service-oriented company that would focus on supporting the benefits and pension needs of Aboriginal communities. Several of the clients that started with Geordie and Ilija in 1994 are still working with them today; a testament to the strength of the business and the relationships that have been built.

Ilija Parojcic

Ilija immigrated to Canada from the UK at the age of 11. He believed his first visit to Canada was a family holiday but he should have known something was up when his ‘holiday’ involved picking tomatoes! “When are we going home?” Ilija asked. “Mi sada zivimo ovdje” his Serbian parents told him, “this is where we now live.” Farm life was tough enough but more troubling for Ilija was leaving behind his orange chopper bicycle and his beloved bell-bottoms. But not to worry, he’s made up for those early losses with his sharp fashion sense and nice wheels. Ilija’s Eastern European heritage and time growing up on a farm in Dunnville helped to develop his ‘farmer’s appetite’ and love of food.  Roast lamb on a spit is his favourite! A graduate of both Mohawk College and Brock University, Ilija has built a fantastic entrepreneurial career over 27 years. Known as thoughtful, dependable, and a person whose ear you can bend – Ilija relies on his strong sixth-sense to guide his business and personal decisions. Ilija, his wife Beth and their kids call Burlington home.

Geordie Watson

As the son of a professional “footballer” from Scotland it’s really no surprise that Geordie’s a sports fan. Growing up in Winnipeg, Geordie pulled out his hair watching his beloved Jets rarely make the playoffs. Now as a Leaf fan his hair is unfortunately not faring any better. After graduating with a Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba, Geordie started his career with London Life. A transfer to Southern Ontario meant Geordie needed to find a place to live. A co-worker offered his couch. A fortunate place to land as it turns out for both roommates, as they’ve had a thriving business partnership for decades since. Geordie is known for his liveliness, laughter and high energy, and is recognized as someone with a decisive manner and strong general sensibility. Geordie has a skill for attracting wonderful people within his personal and professional life. He and his wife Fil, and their son call Burlington home.

Cheryl Vinnai

Cheryl has been a team member for WP Financial since 2006. Having worked at a larger benefit consulting firm previously, WP attracted her largely because she’d be engaged with a smaller team and one which fostered a friendlier environment. Cheryl has a degree in Biology from Western and is a very proud mother of two sons. In fact, she’s still trying to adjust to the life of an ’empty-nester’ as her boys are in school and out of the house. Extra spare time has given Cheryl the chance to take-up yoga and golf… just don’t expect to see her on the PGA Tour any time soon! Cheryl lives in Brantford with her husband, Rob, and their two dogs, Scrappi and JD.

Rachel Janecka

Rachel lives in Oakville but has always called Burlington home.

Prior to that, she spent most of her formative years at a mid-sized benefits consulting firm in Toronto until a chance meeting with a friend of Geordie’s at a yoga class led to her introduction to the firm in 2011. Rachel has over 20 years of experience in the group benefits consulting industry and with WP, primarily, she handles client group benefit financials’ and claims experience data mining. Rachel sits as a board member on an industry prescription drug-specific committee.

Rachel loves working within a smaller team and the WP atmosphere.  In her spare time she enjoys exercising, spending time with family and friends and, when time permits, travelling.

Luisa Helling

Luisa was born-and-raised in Hamilton and comes from a traditional Italian family. Maybe it’s due to her being a first generation Canadian – born to immigrant parents who chose Canada as their country of hope – that she’s driven to succeed in her career that has spanned over many years.

She’s been with WP Financial since 2012 and loves the atmosphere and the family environment. Luisa values working with clients and being a part of the process from start to finish . Helping them prepare for their future once they retire is a very rewarding end result for Louisa. Many client testaments support her passion.

Luisa has a degree from McMaster in Political Science and History. Additionally, she’s acquired her Law Clerk diploma from Mohawk College and somehow, somewhere between all of that she managed to get married and have two kids. Luisa and her family live in Stoney Creek.

Lisa Forde

Growing up, Lisa was lucky enough to be able to run free with her two brothers on her family’s hobby farm in Carlisle – a town just north of Burlington. Now she spends her free time with her son and husband at the hockey arenas and soccer fields.

Lisa began her career at Sheridan College which lead to a co-op position within the insurance industry.  After several years in group administration and client support, she joined the WP Financial team in 2013.

Lisa and her family have called Burlington ‘home’ for many years now.

Josh Ruys

Josh initially joined WP Financial as a Sheridan College co-op student and upon graduation – with honours distinction for the finance program in 2013 – accepted a permanent position with the firm. Josh is now a licences advisor and his primary responsibility is to represent WP in the field – at client locations.

Josh has always been athletic and enjoys the memories of his lacrosse and hockey careers. Notably, playing professional lacrosse for the Rochester Knighthawks. Although he misses his sports days, Josh is thrilled to be working with an incredible team at WP Financial.

He stays active playing recreational sports, spending time in the gym and adventuring with his dog ‘Bud’.

Jeannine Whiteley

Jeannine was born and raised in Burlington and today she still calls the beautiful city, home. Her passion in life, and most of her time, is dedicated to her three children. When not busy chasing them, Jeannine enjoys being active and especially taking part in kickboxing classes. She is also an avid sports fan – hockey being her favourite.

Jeannine has over 18 years experience in the financial industry – primarily in a managerial role. She enjoys a smaller firm atmosphere and a more intimate culture and therein lays her primary motivation to join the WP Financial family.

Amy Willms

Amy joined the WP Financial team at the beginning of 2017.  A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, her group benefits career started with a Kitchener-based consulting firm and then, subsequently, with a large insurer.  Amy currently lives in Toronto and largely spends her free time at fitness classes and hiking with her dog.
